Standard Pacific of Florida, a subsidiary of a California-based home builder, paid $17.1 million on June 1, to buy two vacant parcels totaling about 120 acres on State Road 434 in Winter Springs. One of the two parcels has the address of 1295 W. State Road 434. The other is near, but has no address.

The seller was LD Plante Inc., owner of Travel Country as well as nursery and floriculture production businesses, according to Hoovers.

Standard Pacific’s national spokeswoman did not return telephone calls about the purchase. Standard Pacific is in the midst of a recently announced merger with Ryland Homes, another large national home builder with Orlando-area projects.

Winter Springs planners also did not return requests for information about the property. However, the city’s website lists at least one of the property I.D. numbers in the purchase as part of a Plante Property development south of State Road 434 and East of Tuskawilla Road approved for 379 single-family homes and 45,000 –square-feet of commercial on part of a town center at the northeast corner of S.R. 434 and Michael Blake Boulevard.

The location has a number of attractive features. The State Road 417 beltway is close. There are three schools within walking distance, including Keeth Elementary, Indian Trails Middle, and Winter Springs High School. Also, the Cross Seminole Trail runs through the parcels.
