Bob Vander Weide, former Orlando Magic CEO and former son-in-law of Magic owner Rich DeVos, paid $2 million in late August for a Phil Kean Design home in South Winter Park.
Located on Englewood Road in the Forest Hills subdivision, the home lies a block east of Lake Sue.
Set on a 0.25-acre corner lot, the two-story custom home built in 2015 has 4,328 square feet of living area, with five bedrooms and 5.5 baths.
The home features 10-foot ceilings, an interior elevator, lanais with remote screening, a heated salt water pool, and a fully tech-automated home with a tablet to control air conditioning, security cameras, surround sound, LED lighting and televisions.
The sale occurred on Aug. 24, with the deed registered Tuesday in Orange County.
Vander Weide helped lead the Magic to seven 50-win seasons, two Eastern Conference titles and two NBA Finals appearances. He resigned in December 2011, followed by a divorce from then wife Cheri, daughter of team owner Rich DeVos.
The sellers were Yansmith Ambroise and Zully E. Ambroise, two local pediatric physicians, who acquired the undeveloped lot for $530,500 in March 2007.
The couple hired Phil Kean Design Group to design the home’s architecture and interior, and Legacy Custom Built Homes was brought on to build it in 2014.
The house was a division winner of the 2015 Parade of Homes (“Bath and Interior Merchandising” $1.5 million to $2 million), and an Aurora Award winner from the Florida Association of Home Builders.
The Ambroises plan to stay in Winter Park, as they search for another lot to build a new home.
The property was co-listed by agents Betsy Green and John Hurlburt of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate’s Winter Park office, while the buyer’s agent was Shelby Norwich of Olde Town Brokers.
