Orlando-based Wyndham Resort Development Corp. is planning to double the size of one of its local WorldMark timeshare resorts with an 87-unit expansion, but will introduce a second brand in the process.
Located at 12000 International Dr., the Wyndham Orlando Kingstown Reef Resort is one of two timeshare properties in Greater Orlando that operates under Wyndham’s WorldMark brand. It currently has two four-story buildings totaling 99 units, which include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes, and some smaller hotel-style rooms with no kitchen.
A Development Plan filed on Friday with Orange County calls for expansion onto an adjacent 2.55-acre undeveloped tract with two new four-story buildings totaling 87 units, and a new employee parking area on the resort’s eastern edge.
The resort has run at a high occupancy since opening in 1999, and Wyndham has held the adjacent undeveloped land on its books since 2002 through various affiliates in anticipation of expansion.
Wyndham will introduce Shell Vacations Club, a brand of Wyndham Vacation Ownership, through the two new buildings to make Kingstown Reef Resort a dual-brand timeshare property.
Remaining green space between the two new buildings would be developed with a sand volleyball court, playground and shuffleboard court, according to a lighting plan within the DP.
Officials with Wyndham Resort Development did not respond to requests for comment on Tuesday.
Frontin the Kingstown Reef Resort along International Drive remain approximately 4.12 undeveloped acres owned by two different family investment groups, one of which is an affiliate of local restaurant and retail developers Maali Enterprises, Inc.
Harris Civil Engineers, Butler Moore Architects and Libra Design Group have contributed to the Wyndham property’s new DP thus far.
