A new 56,000-square-foot shopping plaza anchored by a new Planet Fitness and a health-conscious theme will soon break ground in Clermont.

The Shoppes at Anderson Hill, located across the street from Walmart at the northwest corner of U.S. 27 and Anderson Hill Road, will be unlike any other commercial development in Clermont, according to city plans.

“It will serve the young, fit, active people and fit into Clermont’s City of Champions branding,” said Chuck Holliday, vice president of Jamison Commercial Partners, which is working to fill the 8.5-acre plaza with healthy lifestyle brands, including two fast-casual restaurants, one with drive-thru capabilities.

Right now, Jamison is talking with a healthy meal prep concept, too.

“Tenants vary from family entertainment, sit down and fast/casual restaurants, to high-end fitness apparel and Urgent Care,” Holliday said. “We hope to be able to announce some of these brands shortly.”

The development is less than 3 miles from the National Training Center, which serves over 500,000 national level athletes annually. The proximity to the center, along with requests from residents for more healthy options, prompted the development plan, according to city leaders.

The site plan was approved in October, which means dirt can start moving anytime. According to a project brochure by Jamison, 39,000 vehicles pass the property every day and the average income within three miles is $81,267.

The developer, QJB Properties LLC, received entitlements in October 2017. There is still end cap, freestanding and in line space available among the 11 commercial spaces in the development other than the Planet Fitness.

Clermont is seeking tenants who aren’t located anywhere else in the city and hope to open the plaza in spring 2019.

Other recent retail/commercial activity in South Lake includes Winter Park-based Battaglia Group using the auction route to sell a vacant outparcel at a Publix-anchored shopping center in the Four Corners area of Lake County; sale of the 6.2-acre tract on U.S. 27 at the entrance to Golden Eagle Village, about 2 miles north of U.S. 192, is pending for just over $2 million through Saunders Auctions.
