Lennar Homes is prepping for a major expansion of its booming Storey Lake Resort community in Osceola County with a new section called “Shingle Creek.”
Lennar paid $16 million in June to buy 323 acres of vacant land between Storey Lake and Shingle Creek. The builder has rezoned it to Tourist Commercial and filed a Preliminary Subdivision Plan in September calling for 358 single family homes and 212 townhomes.
The homebuilder filed construction plans Dec. 20 with the South Florida Water Management District for the first phase of the subdivision, comprising 112 units (48 townhomes and 64 detached vacation homes.)
This is the second major expansion of Storey Lake. The original community, located at the intersection of Osceola Parkway and Vineland Road (S.R. 535), is approved for approximately 2,000 homes. The community offers condos, townhomes, vacation homes and single-family homes. The clubhouse features a resort pool with lazy river, splash park, sport courts and a miniature golf course.
In 2017, Lennar bought adjacent land from Westgate Resorts for the first major expansion: The Cove at Storey Lake. Osceola County has already approved plans for 243 vacation homes on 95 acres. The Cove would be separated from the original Storey Lake community by an extension of Nature’s Ridge Drive — the road that abuts the neighboring Target store. The community would be constructed in two phases and would have its own 5-acre recreation area.
Nature’s Ridge Drive will be extended further east to the Shingle Creek subdivision, which would be built in three phases. Rj Whidden & Associates is the project planner, and Askey-Hughey is the civil engineer.
Lennar is also currently building a new signalized intersection between Storey Lake Boulevard and U.S. 192 to create an entrance to the community directly off the tourism corridor.
