Colin Greening, who plays hockey in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, and his wife, Kristin, have paid $1.001 million for a four-bedroom, farmhouse-style house in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood.
A Newfoundland native who earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University, Greening, 30, has played for the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs ice hockey teams. He is on the roster of the Toronto Marlies, a Maple Leafs affiliate.
In Lakeview, Greening and his wife bought a significantly upgraded, two-story house that was built in 1891. Features include 3-1/2 baths, a living room with a custom entertainment center, a new roof, new gutters, a deck leading to a private patio and a fenced dog run, and a kitchen with 1.5-inch concrete countertops, stainless steel appliances and 42-inch cherry cabinets.
The house had been listed for $999,000. Michael Michalak of Re/Max Exclusive Properties, who represented the Greenings, said the couple declined to comment on the purchase.
