Developer Lew Manilow, wife sell Gold Coast condo for $4.9 million

Attorney, real estate developer and art collector Lew Manilow and his wife, Susan, on Monday sold their three-bedroom, two-story maisonette-style condominium in the luxury Gold Coast building at 65 E. Goethe for $4.9 million.

The Manilows most recently had been asking $5.75 million for the 5,500-square-foot unit, or more than double the $2.45 million they paid for it in 2004.

"It's a great building. For people who are looking for understated elegance, it's probably the best building in the city," said listing agent Jim Kinney of Baird & Warner. "It's for people who are just comfortable being in a good building and low visibility."

Features in the unit include 5 1/2 baths, a custom terrazzo floor on the first level, hardwood floors on the second level and a first-floor master suite with an office.

The Manilows first listed the unit in May 2014 for $6.25 million. They cut their asking price in January to $5.95 million and then to $5.75 million in June.

Public records do not yet identify the buyers. Kinney said the buyer is a land trust, although he declined to say who is behind the trust.

Previously, the Manilows paid $4 million on Oct. 22 for a three-bedroom, 3,349-square-foot condominium unit on the 12th floor of a Near North Side tower.
