Edward J. (Ed) Gonzalez, 69, formerly a resident of Plainville CT, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Dixmont, ME, where he retired with Diane (Diasio) Gonzalez, his wife of over 35 years. Edward was born on January 25, 1951 in Bristol, CT, the second child to the late Salvador L. and Jean Gonzalez of Plainville. He was predeceased by his brother Daniel. Ed attended Plainville High School and after graduating he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era in the Signal Corps. Ed was stationed at the Defense Communications Systems Station at Stein-Neukirch, Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, Ed worked at Pratt & Whitney for 9 years; soon after he joined Treadwell Corp. in Thomaston, CT. This gave Ed the opportunity to travel the world as a civilian contractor supporting the nuclear submarine fleet of the U.S. Navy. Leaving Treadwell after 20+ years, Ed and Diane spent time restoring their home in Nova Scotia. Returning to Connecticut, Ed worked for Siemens Corp. for 11 years, retiring in 2017 and moving to Maine. Ed was a trained electrician and always just a phone call away to lend a hand to family and friends. It was known that if you loaned Ed anything, he considered it a gift. Ed had a passion for dogs and cherished his Airedales. In addition to Diane, Ed is survived by his, and Christine Pylant's, son Edward of Cromwell, grandsons Maxwell and Michael; daughter Marisa Danylieko and husband John of Pittsfield, MA; his siblings and their significant others Philip and Ivonne of Trinity, FL; Steven and Tim of Belchertown, MA; Michael and Sheila of Plainville; Frank and Cheryl of Plainville; Daniel's widow Ellen of Plainville; John and Teresa of New Britain; Judy Principi and Jim of Burlington; godson and nephew Christian and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring.
