CVS looking at Orlando for new call center
CVS's growth dovetails with the prospect of the pharmacy chain opening a call center in Orlando.

CVS Caremark is looking into establishing a call center in south Orlando, with SouthPark Center a contender for the site.

The pharmacy giant is seeking roughly 100,000 square feet and has had serious discussions about the three-story building housed at 9310 SouthPark, according to people familiar with the matter.

If CVS moved there, significant renovation would be likely, which means construction jobs would be created. It is not known how many people CVS would hire to staff the call center.

The 112,331 square foot office property is currently on the market with a "negotiable" lease, according to LoopNet.

CVS spokeswoman Christine Cramer said it was premature to discuss a call center at 9310 SouthPark, but did not appear to rule it out. "At this time, I don't have specific details to share on this project," she said.

The property is owned by Boston-based AEW Capital Management, which bought it from Fdg Southpark I LLC for $16.2 million in July of last year, Orange County Property Appraiser records show .

Flagler Development Group is the broker for the office building, which is part of an office park that was built in 2007 and is located on John Young Parkway, just south of Sand Lake Road. Representatives of Flagler declined to comment on whether they were negotiating with CVS.

CVS Pharmacy is the second largest pharmacy chain after Walgreens, with more than 7,600 stores, and is the second largest US pharmacy based on total prescription revenue.

The Woonsocket, RI-headquartered company had sales of almost $140 billion last year and continues to grow its store base. The growth has led to the opening of a number of call centers to meet rising demand. Locations include Nashville, San Antonio and Honolulu.

Call center representatives help customers over the telephone with their prescription benefits. Representatives also "diffuse angry customers and solve escalated problems with their prescription benefits, with the ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally charged interactions," according to CVS's job description for the position.

Representatives also identify the needs of the customer and educate them on the benefits available to them, the job description says.

The new call center's potential home, SouthPark Center, is made up of 18 single and multi-story office buildings. Collectively, SouthPark Center has more than 2.9 million square feet of building space on 176 acres.
