As the extension of the S.R. 429 spur into Mount Dora moves ever closer, Lake County is preparing to upgrade rural roads that will get a lot more traffic dumped into the area at S.R. 44 and Round Lake in Mount Dora.
The county has put out a Request for Statements of Qualifications (RSQ) from companies interested in doing the project planning, preliminary engineering and environmental analysis services (PD&E Study) for Round Lake Road from the Orange County line on the south to S.R. 44 on the north, about a 4.5-mile stretch bordered bysome rural homes as well as a large subdivision.
The project's scope of services involves location and design studies, including all social and environmental effects, environment documents, engineering reports and public hearings.
The consultant will study the addition of lanes to the existing two-lane Round Lake Road as well as short-term strategies to deal with traffic during the construction. Widening of up to 600 feet in each direction, improved signage, and new traffic signals if necessary will also be a focus, as well as bicycle and pedestrian improvements and improvements to school access routes.
The consultant would also suggest amenities to mitigate impacts of the wider road, including landscaping and noise barrier walls. Traffic calming roundabouts may also be included.
