A Hampton Inn by Hilton is in the works for a 3.6-acre parcel on West Colonial Drive in Ocoee just off the Florida’s Turnpike.
Ocala-based HDG Hotels — which currently owns a Fairfield Inn in Kissimmee and manages a Wyndham Garden on International Drive — is leading the development project.
Billy Gilchrist, the company’s chief development and finance officer, told GrowthSpotter that it’s envisioned to be a 110-room hotel built by Indiana-based SSC Construction. That construction company has built other Hampton Inns across the country, according to its website.
Ocala-based land Development and civil engineering firm Davis Dinkins Engineering is also involved in the project.
The land at 11405 W Colonial Dr. has been owned by Sym Capital Partners since 2020, when it was purchased for $510,000, according to property records. Azim Saju, the CEO and President of HDG Hotels, is also listed as the registered agent for Sym Capital, according to the Florida Division of Corporations.
The property sits in a historically industrial area just northeast of where the Florida’s Turnpike intersects with S.R. 429.
The project has received approval from the city of Ocoee, though the city’s website lists it as a planned 102-room dual-branded Comfort Inn and Mainstay Suites.
A permit application for the new hotel concept was submitted to the St. John’s River Water Management District on April 15. It’s in the review process pending approval.
“We are currently fully approved by the city of Ocoee and plan to start site work in the next 30 days,” Gilchrist said.
Hampton is Hilton’s most popular select-service brand. The company has more than 790 new hotels in development globally.
The company had previously eyed a location just west of the S.R. 429 interchange in the Winter Garden city limits for a Hampton but ended up securing a Home2 Suites extended-stay flag instead. That project is under construction as part of the new People’s Plaza redevelopment.
HDG’s Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites in Kissimmee was built in 2016 and is the only Marriott-branded hotel on W192. It’s located just three miles from Walt Disney World theme parks.
The HDG-managed Wyndham Garden on International Drive, located at 5855 American Way, wrapped construction in 2020.
