The county issued a request for proposals (RFP) Tuesday for firms to handle water and wastewater projects that may have a relatively small work effort and relatively small cost.

The successful firms must be registered by the state as Professional Engineers and be proficient in civil, environmental, electrical, mechanical, structural and other engineering specialties. No bid bond is required, but firms answering the RFP must be insured.

Examples of projects the consultants will participate in include site evaluations for water, wastewater, effluent disposal and reclaimed water facilities, pump stations and other utility system components.

Specific services under the contract could include performing pipe corrosion analyses and condition assessments, alternate pipe material and coating system evaluations. The firm will also be expected to work on permits, preparing applications, design calculations, maps, drawings, specifications, and supporting documents required to obtain approval from agencies having jurisdiction over the projects.

The consultants will also provide preliminary design services including modeling, projections, development of design parameters, and economic evaluations for water and wastewater projects. They will assist other county departments on studies, design, permitting, bidding, construction administration and other work.

Sealed bids for bid no. Y17-901 will be received no later than 2 p.m. March 7. The bids must be sent to the Orange County Procurement Division, Internal Operations Centre II, second floor, 400 E. South St., Orlando, FL 32801.

A pre-proposal conference will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Engineering Division large conference room, 9150 Curry Ford Road, Orlando.

Copies of the RFP can be obtained from the procurement division by phone (407) 836-5635, faxing a request to (407) 836-5899, or can be downloaded from the internet at (http://www.orangecountyfl.net/.
