UCF seeks architect/engineer for $7M athletics office building expansion

The University of Central Florida is seeking an architecture and engineering consultant to lead the $7 million expansion of its Wayne Densch Sports Center building, which will provide more space to UCF's football operations, and be a permanent home for much of the athletics department.

Located at 4180 N. Orion Blvd. on the UCF campus, the project involves interior design of the Wayne Densch Sports Center (Building 77) expansion by about 40,000 square feet, into space that lies directly south of Nicholson Field House, according to an Invitation For Bid (IFB) published on Friday.

The existing Wayne Densch Sports Center to the south currently houses UCF's football staff offices, and weight rooms. Other UCF coaches and athletic department staff are across campus in temporary offices, until this building expansion is completed.

The exterior shell construction for this building expansion is expected to start in May by Wharton Smith.

The architect's basic scope of services includes validation of the initial concept and schematic design, production of construction documents, construction administration services, and designing the building's interior, landscaping and more.

The 60 percent design documents of the project are posted on the advertisement section of the Facilities Planning and Construction website. That design illustrates the general intent of the project and may be altered.

Total project cost is estimated at $7 million for planning, design, permitting, construction, commissioning and furnishings/equipment. Total construction cost is approximately $5 million, and the project is subject to funding availability.

The renovation and expansion is expected by UCF to achieve LEED Gold certification. Bidding architecture firms must include at least one LEED-certified design professional.

UCF is seeking applicants that can detail how they've worked on five projects in the past of similar size and complexity, that their current workload and staffing can accommodate the new project, and that their firms have the experience of working with public and higher education clients.

Submissions for UCF project no. 583 are due April 10, at 5 p.m. Documents for the bid opportunity can be found with the advertisement at UCF's Facilities Planning & Construction website.
