The Gold Meat Co. has submitted a preliminary plan to build a "process meat company" in Lake County at a former Reddy Ice plant near Tavares, the county landfill, and the Blue Rhino plant.
Paulo Cesar Barao Candido is listed as the applicant for the Gold Meat Co. The address he listed on the application is a residence in Winter Garden. Calls to the telephone number listed on the application were not returned.
Tim Lambert, listed as a consultant for Gold Meat Co., which is looking to lease the land from the owner, was reached twice but said he could not talk at either time because he was with clients.
The 9.46-acre site is made up of two side-by-side parcels bounded by Lake Industrial Blvd. and Country Road 448. The addresses are 13910 Country Road 448 and 28536 Lake Industrial Blvd. The land is zoned for light manufacturing.
The parcels are owned by LD Plante Inc., owner of Travel Country, as well as nursery and floriculture production businesses, according to Hoovers.
The roots of LD Plante Inc. stretch far back in the Orlando area. Lawrence D. Plante Sr. of Winter Park started a small meat rendering business on Silver Star Road in the 1940s, according to the Orlando Sentinel. He died in 1986.
According to Lake County Property Appraiser records, there is 42,000 square feet of buildings, including office space, warehouses, and a lot of freezer/cooler space. The property has its own wells and septic system.
The application says the previous tenant on the property produced 160 tons of ice (32,000 10-pound bags) on peak production days. The automatic bagging and ice producing equipment was removed. However, the freezer building remains with a running temperature of 10 degrees.
