Virginia Beach-based powertools manufacturer STIHL, Inc., is preparing to double its footprint in Orlando, working with Liberty Property Trust to develop land west of Orlando International Airport for a new 155,000-square-foot distribution center.

Planned for 2904 Tradeport Dr., the 12.98-acre property lies on the eastern edge of the Liberty Park at AIPO industrial park. Liberty Property Trust's land owner affiliate there filed a final site plan, engineering and construction permit requests with the City of Orlando on Feb. 1.

The project would consist of a new warehouse shell with limited office space for STIHL's distribution center needs serving the Southeastern United States.

STIHL's southeast distribution center is currently in a 75,180-square-foot warehouse at 2304 W. Taft Vineland Road, a property developed in 2003 by a Liberty Property Trust affiliate. The new site will be 4.3 miles closer to the airport's western entrance.

Officials with STIHL and Liberty Property Trust did not respond to requests for comment on Thursday.

Maitland-based SK Consortium, Inc., is civil engineer on the project, and C4 Architecture is the architect.
