Another car dealership is on tap for State Road 50's "Auto Row" in Clermont. The owners of Headquarter Honda are planning a Mazda dealership to its west, one lot over from the Honda dealership.
Headquarter Auto Clermont LTD bought the parcel at 17550 State Road 50 for $2.03 million on June 15. It has since submitted plans for a Mazda dealership for the site, which is in Lake County, but also in Clermont's service district.
State Road 50, from the Florida Turnpike west has become the auto-shopping strip for south Lake County. Toyota, Nissan, Dodge, Ford, and Chevy dealers, as well as the Honda dealership, are already along that stretch. And Clermont is busily annexing them.
In April, Clermont annexed a 142-acre parcel called Plaza Collina on the north side of S.R. 50 into the city with the understanding that it could hold no more than two car dealerships without going back to the city to ask for more, said Barbara B. Hollerand, Clermont's development services coordinator. Plaza Collina has no connection to the luxury community of Bella Collina.
So far, Don Mealey Chevrolet has submitted a preliminary plan to move to the Plaza Collina spot from its current S.R. 50 location, Hollerand said. So has Hyundai, which has also submitted a preliminary site plan to move into Plaza Collina.
In the meantime, Clermont has been busily annexing other car dealerships into the city limits as well.
The Toyota dealership on S.R. 50 came into the city in March and Headquarter Honda, Clermont Nissan, and the existing location of Don Mealey Chevrolet were all annexed in April. The annexations were all possible because of an interlocal service boundary agreement with Lake County that allows annexations of non-contiguous properties if the city has an agreement to provide a utility for the property owner.
Clermont Ford is also in the city limits, but Napleton Jeep remains in Lake County's boundaries.
