Tommy's Florida, part of a national chain of boat dealerships, has filed plans to build a new two-story, 14,000 square-foot sales and service building in Clermont to replace its current leased facility nearby.
Located on the south side S.R. 50 just east of a U-Haul rental business, a Development Plan is still under review by Clermont planning staff, and the St. Johns River Water Management District also must approve an on-site retention pond.
"We are hoping to break ground as soon as permits are given to us," said owner Matt Borisch.
Bear Creek Bridge LLC is the owner of Tommy's Retail center franchise, which has other locations in Michigan's Grand Rapids and Walloon Lake, and Denver, Colorado (its original location). The business was started in 1981.
The company has already selected local builders to bid for the project, said Borisch, who declined to forecast the project's total cost.
A Tommy's affiliate bought the 9.84 acres on Feb. 23 this year for $1.966 million.
