Clermont seeks builder for new Kehlor Recreation Center building

The city of Clermont is looking for a general contractor to lead construction on the new Kehlor Recreation Center building in its historic downtown, according to a Request for Bids (RFB) issued on Friday.

Located at the intersection of Fifth Street and Minneola Avenue, Kehlor Park offers public shuffleboard and tennis courts. An aged community center building that anchors the park has been a long-time hub for local social club meetings.

Plans for a new Kehlor Recreation Center include demolishing the old structure, and in its place constructing a larger and modern building of 2,490 square feet with a multi-purpose room, office, interior restroom and storage area. Exterior restrooms will also serve the adjacent park.

The city said in its RFB that lowest responsive price will be the primary factor in determining which applicant is chosen. Past performance on public contracts, proper licensing and other qualifications will also be considered.

Powell Studio Architecture has produced the project design and construction drawings, and Germana Engineering & Associates has been the civil engineer.

An optional pre-bid conference will be held May 3 at 2 p.m. at City Hall. Bid applications are due by May 24 at 2 p.m. to the Clermont Purchasing Department office.

Full documents for RFB no. 18-024 can be found through the city's Purchasing Department webpage.
