Clermont is in the final throes of choosing a general contractor for its new police station.
The General Contractor contract for the 30,626-square-foot, $10.3 million building is between these pre-qualified companies:
The Artec Group Inc, Wharton-Smith, Schmid Construction, McCree Design Builders, Walbridge Aldinger, Core Construction Services of Florida, and Pirtle Construction Co. are all in the running. The bid deadline is Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. The winner will be announced within a week. Construction is expected to last a year.
Clermont has been planning a new police station for years. The booming city has about doubled its force. The problem has been finding the best site for the station. Finally, the city settled on a corner of its recently purchased Clermont Community Center, which also includes its Clermont Arts & Recreation Center as well. The city purchased the 30-acre site, which was the Celebration of Praise Church, for about $6 million.
Now that Clermont has settled on its new police station site, it is selling a 3.97 acre parcel of land at the corner of Hooks Street and Citrus Tower Blvd., where at one time it had planned to build the police station. Asking price is $1.9 million for the land with a C2 commercial zoning. With that comes an amazing view from the top of Clermont overlooking the city and Lake Minnehaha.
