Prolific MLB outfielder pays $4.6M+ for award-winning home in Lake Nona

One of Major League Baseball's best outfielders from the past decade paid $4.65 million last week for an award winning home in Lake Nona designed by Phil Kean Designs

Located on Mayfair Pointe Drive within walking distance of the Lake Nona Golf Course, the 0.71-acre lot features the "2017 New American Home" that was built in 2016 for showcase in January 2017 during the NAHB International Builders Show. 

The single-story home features five bedrooms and 7.5 baths, with 12,000 square feet of habitable area. Designed to have a net-zero energy balance, it's the first North American home to have Tesla solar backup batteries, and was NGBS Emerald certified and LEED Gold certified.  

The buyers were Carlos E. Gonzalez and wife Indonesia Gonzalez, natives of Venezuela. Carlos is a 10-year veteran Major League Baseball player, spending nearly all of that time with the Colorado Rockies as a prolific outfielder. Gonzalez was a three-time All-Star, former National League batting champion, two-time Silver Slugger Award winner and a three-time Gold Glove Award winner. 

The sale closed on March 1 and was recorded Monday morning in Orange County. 

Highlights of the home include a four-car garage, two outdoor summer kitchens, a spa with steam room, rooftop balcony, solar panels and tankless water heaters, five-hole putting green and game room with golf simulator, wine room and bar, and guest apartment. 

Nicknamed "GarCo" by Rockies teammates, Gonzalez became a free agent this past offseason and has yet to sign with an MLB team. The Denver Post reported last week that Gonzalez is working out in Florida while waiting for a contract offer, and that Rockies players are clamoring for his return

Indonesia Riera Gonzalez is a former model and TV actress in Venezuela. The couple were married in 2012, and have three children. 

The Gonzalez family already owns a 7,187-square-foot home in Windermere on Grosvenor Pointe Circle, for which Carlos paid $3.275 million in 2012. That home is expected to be listed for sale in the near future.
