Ocoee seeks design-build contractors for new City Hall project

The city of Ocoee is seeking initial applications from design-build contractors for its new City Hall, according to a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued Thursday.

TheRFP is for an initial stage ofpre-qualifying for interested construction and design firms. Only those firms that arepre-qualified and short-listed will be invited to propose on Stage 2 of theRFP later this year for design/construction and price proposals.

The City Hall relocation project is part of a $45 million public infrastructure investment by Ocoee in order to stimulate development in the city's downtown.

City commissioners settled on a design style back in January for the new City Hall, with the design criteria package created by the Winter Park office of Zyscovich Architects.

The design-build firm or team will be responsible for the complete design and construction of Ocoee's new City Hall.

Conceptual design for the new building is a basic three-story rectangle with 40,000 square feet. The City Commission has indicated a general preference for the Art Deco style of architecture with a brick veneer.

The original construction estimate for the project was $9 million, which will be funded in large part by bond proceeds. Estimated design and construction costs range from $11 million to $12 million, depending on methods of constructing a theoretical three-story building.

Seventeen months have been allocated for completion of the project, following issuance of a notice to proceed.

Applications to the city's Purchasing Department are due by June 12. No optional pre-submittal conference will be held in the coming month.

Full documents for RFP no. 18-001 can be found through the city's Purchasing Department webpage.

In addition to the new City Hall, Ocoee is also working with GAI Consultants to design a new master stormwater system for its downtown, and activated the construction phase on its Lakeshore Center expansion.
