AV Homes planning retail center at Bellalago on Lake Toho

Bellalago developer AV Homes is seeking a permit to develop about 20,000 square feet of retail on 6.5 acres (in blue) at the community's main entrance.

Residents in the Bellalago boating community on Lake Tohopekaliga could have some new shopping and dining options soon.

Bellalago developer AV Homes filed plans this week with the South Florida Water Management District for a 6.5-acre retail plaza called Village Shops at Pleasant Hill Road, at the community's north gate.

The site is just south of the future Valencia College Poinciana Campus, which opens in 2017, and the county's 400-acre College Station mixed-use site.

The Village Shops preliminary site plan shows three buildings, the largest is 9,800 square feet, with associated parking.

The preliminary site plan shows three buildings and associated parking. The largest is 9,800 square feet, followed by 7,124 square feet and 4,000 square feet.

The community is already served by a Publix-anchored retail center at the south gate. But the master plan calls for future retail development along Pleasant Hill.

The community's K-8 charter school and the Diocese of Orlando are both planning expansions on Pleasant Hill to keep up with the residential growth along the western shore of Lake Toho.

Tramell Webb has filed a preliminary plat for the first phase of a 1,018-home community on Ham Brown Road that would link to Pleasant Hill.
