Osceola cancels bidding on Poinciana properties to rewrite solicitation

Osceola County has canceled the solicitation for the sale of its Poinciana SunRail and Valencia College properties that was published less than a week ago to rewrite it.

Procurement Director Rebecca Jones issued the notice of cancelation Monday afternoon saying that the county “intends to further refine the project scope and project boundaries for development of these parcels and will resolicit at a future date.”

The RFLOI sought proposals for the remaining 62 acres of county-owned land north on Poinciana Boulevard, north of the SunRail station. The county already has agreed to sell a portion of its 82 acres to Birdsong Housing Partners for its 354-unit Falcon Trace II affordable workforce housing development, but those parcels were not excluded in the map that was included in the RFLOI.

The second parcel was described as the Mac Overstreet Site. The RFLOI included 86 acres of the 351-acre county-owned parcel on Pleasant Hill Road, which is also known as College Station. The acreage is immediately north of the Bellalago boating community and behind the Valencia College Poinciana campus. The document did not include any maps that defined which 86 acres were being offered for sale.

“There were changes to the parcels prior to development of the (RFLOI) that I wasn’t aware of,” Jones said. “I had pushed forward with information that was slightly off, so the best course of action is to start fresh with new solicitations to ensure there is no confusion on the goals for each parcel.”

Nearly 30 individuals and firms had downloaded the RFLOI from the county’s VendorLink website.
