Dyer Auto Group has filed plans for a pair of new car dealerships on U.S. 27 in Lake Wales, across from Eagle Ridge Mall.

The Vero Beach-based dealer group bought the 19-acre parcel in January for $2.2 million and already has an approved Preliminary Site Plan from the city.

The plan identifies McGuire Kia as one of the new dealerships to be built in the first phase of the project. Dyer also owns McGuire Chevrolet in Lake Wales, but the site plan doesn't identify the second dealership.

Lake Wales Planning Technician Autumn Cochella told GrowthSpotter on Wednesday that Suncoast Autobuilders had already submitted construction drawings on behalf of Dyer to the city. She's just waiting for their consulting engineer, Sloan Engineering, to satisfy comments from the Utilities Department before scheduling a pre-construction meeting.

"The comments were pretty minor, so I don't expect it will take very long," Cochella said. "Once they have their outside agency permits from FDOT and SWFWMD, they can be moving dirt out there."

McGuire Kia's current dealership, at 21280 U.S. 27, was built in 1990 and has less than 6,000 square feet for showroom and offices. The service area is 5,700 square feet.

The new Kia Core dealership will be 26,300 square feet of interior space, plus a 17-bay service center that adds another 9,400 square feet to the project. The main driveway will line up directly across from the main entrance to Eagle Ridge Mall.

The second dealership, to be built in a later phase, would have about 23,000 square feet plus a 15-bay service center.
