Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church is tearing down its sanctuary to make room for a 32-foot high, two-story administrative building.

The Winter Park church, at 5300 Old Howell Branch Rd., southwest of Bear Gully Road, is acting because it already has another sanctuary and has a need for office space.

The administrative building will be 20,000 square feet, more than twice the size of the 8,500-square-foot sanctuary.

Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with its 10,000 congregants, is a focal point of worship in south Seminole County and also draws parishioners from other areas.

The project at the parish, which sits on 12.5 acres, is not expected to affect services.

Work is projected to begin in a couple of months and last nine months.

The general contractor is Rieker Duly Construction of Orlando, with subcontractor work expected to be needed.

The architect is HHCP of Orlando.

The civil engineer is Florida Engineering Group of Orlando.
