Demolition of the  Mount Vernon Inn began in June 2015 to make way for Lakeside Crossings, a mixed-use development on US 17-92 slated for 35,000 square feet of dining and retail space, with a dedicated parking garage.

The plan approved by the Winter Park City Commission in late April 2015 was dramatically scaled down from the original submitted by developer Chuck Whittall of Unicorp National Developments. Originally, the project was called The Luxe and included 172 high-end apartments. Later the residential was eliminated from the site plan, and the project renamed.
