The Orlando Magic'sSports and Entertainment District is planned as private mixed-use "Fun District" development that will feed off of and into the Amway Center.
Developers want to give the 8.43-acre site an exciting urban feeling, linking activities to whatever is happening at Amway, from concerts to Magic games. Renderings by RTKL, credited with the visions for similar developments in Dallas, Kansas City and Los Angeles, show an open plaza surrounded by tall glass buildings.
A hotel, expo space, shops, offices, residential, and a new parking lot structure are all part of the full plan. But first the Magic plans to build the team's office at the location, bringing more than 100 employees to downtown. Currently The Magic's headquarters is at theRDV Sportsplex near Maitland.
The first construction is actually demolition of a city parking lot planned for summer 2015. The Magic and the city are working to mitigate the loss of parking during construction.
