The new $11 million mixed-use Westgate Lakes Retail Village at Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa in south Orlando will be a 220,000-square-foot center with an 80-foot-high penthouse restaurant named Edge Steakhouse, a Draft Sports Bar and Grill, a full-service grocery in Joe's Marketplace and Deli, a video game arcade named Mission Control, 32,000 square feet of meeting space, a seven-story parking garage (472 spaces) and a two-lane bowling alley.
The parking garage opened in late May, but retail, restaurants and the event and meeting space will be ready by January 2016, according to Mark Waltrip, company COO.
The resort also had a two-story expansion added on to the front entrance of its check-in building, which opened in early June. The expansion increased the size of the property's sales center, tripled the size of its fitness center and increased the number of check-in lanes from two to five.
The additional lanes are a big help, Waltrip said. Westgate Lakes has more than 2,000 units, and Fridays and Saturdays typically see guests fill more than 1,000 rooms, he said.
