Requests for construction bids on the new Orlando City Soccer Club stadium have been put on hold until sometime in August or September. Originally they were due at the end of July.
The stadium’s expansion to a 28,000 seat venue and the design requirements related to that were given as some reasons for delaying bidding.
The Orlando City Soccer Club’s decision to finance the soccer stadium itself in the face of uncertain public funding, plus its plan to buy the land from the city of Orlando necessitated the delay, according to BidClerk.
The new bid date is set for Thursday Aug. 27 and the estimated start date is Sept. 28.
The main stadium details remain the same, including a 290,000-square-foot stadium with 28,000 seats, and the $110 million price tag.
Barton Malow Co. is the stadium’s construction manager.
The stadium is expected to be done by the summer of 2016. When it’s finished it will be wholly owned by the Soccer Club, not the City of Orlando as originally planned.
